The festool track saw made this really really easy we just used a square to set the cutting edge of the track and made sure the blade depth was enough for the recess.
How to cut opemimg in 6 panel door.
Cut the pegs about an inch longer than the thickness of the door and taper them smoothly for at least 1 4 at one end to make them easier to drive in and to reduce the chance of splintering.
I have bought 6 panel doors to replace the sapele doors in my house.
For the door i am cutting into our goal was to get as close to the edge of the panel opening as possible and keep it as straight along that edge without cutting outside the panel.
Need a creative solution.
The doors i am replaceing are 2 6 wide so no problem there.
Or you cold hinge each side to open opposite each other.
Maybe replace an old door and it just won t fit.
Do i cut 1 of the top and bottom or 2 off the bottom.
You can further reduce splintering by placing a piece of scrap wood with a hole drilled in it directly under the mortise hole.
However it would mean that the door would have to open and close with the overlapping side opening and clossing first.
The hole in the scrap wood.
On a 6 panel door or at least those that i am familar with have 3 vertical stiles one on each side and one in the middle that separates the panels.
