How to frame a door in a concrete block wall.

Here is a step by step tutorial on how to install a prehung exterior door frame in a concrete wall. Examine the sides of the door opening in the wall to determine the material makeup of your foundation wall. There is no prior spotting of the hole. If the wall is made of concrete blocks you need to fill the cavities in the blocks to provide a flat surface to which you can attach the frame.

Stack the shims on top of each other until the frame levels out. Secure the frame to concrete block. Simply drill the hole in the base material with the door frame in place insert the concrete anchor and tighten. The opening should be two inches wider than the door frame and about an inch taller in height.

Place a level on the bottom of the frame and check to see if it is level. Slide the door frame into the concrete wall opening. If the wall is concrete you can proceed immediately to placing the frame. Mark the opening size for the door on both sides of the wall.

Once both the top and bottom are secure the sides are secured based on whatever material is on the wall next to it. In most cases one of those walls usually the one with the garage door itself will be concrete block.
